Recreation General Obligation Bond
Salt Lake County Recreation Bond on November Ballot
Salt Lake County voters will consider a proposed $128 million Recreation General Obligation Bond during the November 3, 2026, General Election. If approved, the bond would provide funding for improvements to parks, trails, open spaces, and recreation facilities throughout Salt Lake County, including projects in Herriman.
The proposal includes 30 projects across 25 locations, organized into three main categories: Repair, Complete, and Build. Repair projects would focus on improvements to existing facilities, including pools, playgrounds, and recreation centers. Complete projects would add amenities such as restrooms, shade structures, trails, and sports courts to existing parks. Build projects would fund new recreation facilities and amenities, including two recreation centers, additional trails, and an athletic field complex in Herriman.
According to Salt Lake County, the proposed bond would replace existing bond debt that is scheduled to expire, resulting in no net property tax rate increase under the County’s current financing plan. The County estimates the bond would cost approximately $16.39 annually for an average residential property valued at $658,000, offset by the expiration of existing bond payments. The County also estimates that operating and maintaining the proposed facilities would require additional annual expenditures of approximately $4.71 million, which would be addressed through future County budgets.
Residents can review the proposed projects, funding breakdown, estimated financial impacts, and official ballot information on Salt Lake County’s website before the November 3 election.
